Massachusetts moves to strip RegalCare of all nursing home licenses
On Oct. 13, Massachusetts regulators filed to revoke every nursing-home license held by New Jersey-based RegalCare after a series of cost-cutting acquisitions degraded care at its 12 facilities.
The state Department of Public Health announced the license-revocation request, citing the sharp reductions in nursing and other services that followed the chain’s post-pandemic purchase spree. Investigations by one outlet Spotlight Team linked the decline to CEO Eli Mirlis, who redirected funds to businesses he owns. While the revocation does not instantly remove RegalCare’s control, the homes will now face intensified state monitoring.
Why it matters
The revocation could improve care for residents in 12 homes and signal stricter oversight of profit-driven nursing facilities.
