Massive blaze at Neasden waste site halts tube lines near Wembley
A large fire at a mixed-waste plant in Neasden forced the closure of the Metropolitan line and part of the Jubilee line, while also disrupting services to London Marylebone.
Around mid-morning, a significant fire erupted at a mixed-waste centre on an industrial estate in Neasden, less than a mile from Wembley Stadium. London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Andy Pennick reported that roughly 125 firefighters and twenty fire engines were dispatched to tackle the blaze, which engulfed an industrial unit measuring about 100 by 150 metres. Transport for London halted the Metropolitan line completely and suspended service between Wembley Park and West Hampstead on the Jubilee line, while trains to London Marylebone faced interruptions and delays.
An adjacent Amazon warehouse was cleared as a precaution. By early evening the fire was declared under control, though the cause remains under investigation. This incident follows two other major recycling-centre fires this summer, highlighting a growing problem with lithium-battery fires that cost the sector an estimated £1 billion annually.
