Massive communal dinner in Bucharest sets new world record for participants
A record-breaking communal meal was held on a Saturday in Bucharest's Constitution Square, gathering thousands of people to support a pediatric psychiatry project.
On Saturday, Bucharest hosted a historic communal dinner dubbed “Masa care unește,” where thousands of participants sat together at a single, uninterrupted table that spanned roughly five kilometres from Piața Constituției to Piața Unirii. Guests entered the designated area after 16:00 wearing special wristbands and enjoyed free meals, along with thousands of bottles of water and juice; some were even given customised plates or other table items.
The primary goal was charitable, seeking donations for the construction of Romania’s first modern pediatric psychiatry clinic at the Prof. Dr. Alexandru Obregia Hospital, a project funded entirely by contributions. The initiative was organised by Fundația Metropolis with the help of volunteers, and Codin Maticiuc, a partner of the organisers, attended the event. Promotional material for the foundation was displayed on screens throughout the venue, highlighting the clinic’s intended capacity to treat thousands of children each year. This record-setting dinner follows a previous attempt in 2025 in Alba Iulia that also pursued a Guinness World Record.
