Matrade and Semi partner to boost Malaysian firms in global chip supply chain

Matrade announced a collaboration with Semi to help Malaysian companies, especially SMEs, join the worldwide semiconductor market.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) and industry group Semi have formalised a cooperation plan to assist Malaysian businesses, particularly small and medium enterprises, in entering the global semiconductor supply chain. The agreement follows a meeting between Matrade CEO Datuk Indera Abu Bakar Yusof and Semi president Ajit Manocha, reinforcing both organisations' commitment to joint action. The collaboration will facilitate connections with overseas industry leaders, offer capacity-building programmes, and support market expansion.

Matrade pointed to a recent budget allocation that reflects the government's focus on the electrical and electronics and semiconductor industries. Semi highlighted Malaysia's established position within the worldwide chip ecosystem and its strong export performance. Matrade will showcase ten local firms at SemiCON West 2026, covering a range of semiconductor and electronics products.

Why it matters

The partnership could enhance Malaysia's role in the global chip market and create export growth for local firms.
