MAVIR board launches probe into cleaning contract awarded to firm linked to official’s spouse
MAVIR’s newly formed leadership is reviewing the tender that gave a cleaning contract for its substations to Profi-Komfort, a company indirectly owned by Szikora Linda, the wife of former state secretary Kovács Zoltán, after all other bidders were disqualified.
MAVIR announced that its newly constituted governing board will scrutinise the procurement process for cleaning its substation facilities after the contract was awarded solely to Profi-Komfort Kft. The tender, launched in March, received 18 submissions; 13 were ruled invalid, resulting in a single remaining offer. Profi-Komfort is indirectly owned by Szikora Linda, who acquired a 33 percent stake in September 2024 and later bought the remaining shares via Násfa-Hunyor Kft. in July 2025.
MAVIR’s leadership has recently changed, with Gyulay Zoltán Tamás replacing Szarvas Ferenc as CEO and new members Szörényi Gábor and Varró László joining the supervisory board. The investigation aims to verify that the procurement complied with competition rules. Profi-Komfort has previously secured other public cleaning contracts, including for the Műcsarnok and ELTE Bárczi Gusztáv Gyógypedagógiai Kar, and its owner Szikora Linda has a background in local politics with Fidesz and Óbudai Vagyonkezelő Zrt.
Why it matters
The probe highlights possible nepotism and lack of competition in public procurement involving a state-owned utility.
