Max Fried placed on 15-day IL with left elbow bone bruise, rotation reshuffled

The Yankees moved left-hander Max Fried to the 15-day injured list because of a left elbow bone bruise, and Carlos Rodón will take his spot in the rotation.

The New York Yankees placed left-handed pitcher Max Fried on the 15-day injured list, effective August 14, after a left elbow bone bruise was diagnosed, mirroring the injury that kept him out for ten weeks earlier in the season. Fried had been pitching effectively since his comeback, surrendering only five runs while striking out 29 over 24 2/3 innings. Carlos Rodón will step into the rotation, scheduled to start against the Orioles after a six-week hiatus for elbow inflammation.

The report also noted that Rockies outfielder Hunter Goodman remains sidelined with left shoulder inflammation, while the Oakland Athletics placed catcher Tyler Soderstrom back on the IL for a left hip impingement. Additional injuries highlighted include Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s concussion, Edward Cabrera’s finger blister, Dansby Swanson’s oblique strain, and several other players dealing with various ailments across the league.

Why it matters

Fried's injury removes a key starter from the Yankees, affecting their rotation and playoff chances.
