Mayor Mamdani joins Governor Hochul and Rev. Sharpton at Harlem celebration
Mayor Zohran Mamdani braved rain to attend a Harlem event honoring Rev. Al Sharpton’s 15-year Politics Nation milestone, alongside Governor Kathy Hochul and other officials.
On a drizzle-filled Tuesday, Mayor Zohran Mamdani cycled to Red Rooster in Harlem to mark the 15th anniversary of Rev. Al Sharpton’s MS NOW program “Politics Nation.” The gathering featured Governor Kathy Hochul, who presented a state proclamation and called Sharpton a “living Forrest Gump,” as well as Tony-winner Billy Porter, MS NOW president Rebecca Kutler, and other notable guests. Mamdani’s remarks praised Sharpton for holding New York City mayors honest long before his own term.
City Council Speaker Julie Menin was seen chatting with the mayor, while journalists and commentators including Phil Griffin, Stephanie Ruhle and others mingled. Sharpton’s longtime partner, designer Aisha McShaw, also attended, underscoring his multifaceted role as activist, broadcaster and civic conscience.
