Mayor Zohran Mamdani installs bidets in New York's historic Gracie Mansion

When Zohran Mamdani took up residence at Gracie Mansion earlier this year, he expressed a desire to equip the bathrooms with bidets. In a Wednesday press conference he confirmed that the bidets have been installed throughout the residence, noting the modest cost of each unit. Because the additions are considered non-structural, the mayor was legally permitted to make the changes without a review by the city’s historic preservation authorities.

Gracie Mansion, owned by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation and protected by the Gracie Mansion Conservancy, has been a designated landmark since 1966. The move reflects a personal comfort upgrade rather than a policy initiative.
