MCA leader says PH should not object to Peter Anthony's parole

MCA president Wee Ka Siong highlighted that Pakatan Harapan offered no objection when former Sabah minister Peter Anthony was granted parole after serving only a year of a three-year jail term for forging a letter from a deputy vice-chancellor at Universiti Malaysia Sabah. He stressed that the rule of law requires consistent use of such mechanisms, noting the Federal Territory Pardon Board’s scheduled meeting on September 11 to review Najib Razak’s pardon application.

Wee reminded that Malaysia’s justice system provides parole, remission and royal pardon powers under the Constitution, and that it is inappropriate for PH to demand full sentences only when the outcome is unfavorable to them. He cautioned against invoking “rule of law” selectively, emphasizing that legal principles should not change based on the individual involved.
