McDonald's Japan pauses sales of ten beef burgers in Hokkaido over quality concerns

McDonald's Japan stopped selling ten beef-based menu items at all 91 Hokkaido locations after suspect patties were delivered, with sales set to resume on October 3.

McDonald’s Japan announced a temporary suspension of ten beef-based menu items at its 91 restaurants in Hokkaido after patties that might not satisfy quality requirements were supplied to the region. The pause, which started on September 30 evening, includes the Hamburger, Bacon Lettuce Burger, Big Mac and other items that use beef patties, and will continue through October 2. The company plans to restart sales on October 3 once it has obtained suitable replacement inventory and restored its supply chain.

No health incidents have been reported in connection with the patties. McDonald’s Japan is conducting an internal investigation to determine how the non-conforming products entered its distribution network and has issued an apology to affected customers. All other menu items remain on sale as usual throughout Hokkaido.

Why it matters

The pause removes core menu items for nearly 100 restaurants, highlighting supply-chain vulnerabilities in a major fast-food brand.
