McLaren to auction five historic F1 cars driven by champions and Brad Pitt
McLaren is putting five race-ready Formula 1 cars, once driven by Lewis Hamilton, Ayrton Senna and even Brad Pitt, up for sale through dealer Tom Hartley Jr.
McLaren announced that five fully functional Formula 1 cars will be sold through high-end dealer Tom Hartley Jr, with the aim of moving them from storage to active use. The collection includes two 1991 MP4/6A chassis (numbers 04 and 07) that raced with Gerhard Berger and were tested by the late Ayrton Senna, a 2012 MP4/27A piloted by 2009 champion Jenson Button and later tested by Lewis Hamilton, and two recent models driven exclusively by Lando Norris in the 2021 and 2023 seasons.
The 2023 MCL37A-03 was also driven by Brad Pitt during a private test at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas in June 2025, reaching about 317 km/h. McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown said the sale will help preserve the team’s legacy, and the cars are expected to fetch between £5 million and £10 million each. The offering follows previous sales of Bernie Ecclestone’s F1 collection and Mansour Ojjeh’s road cars by the same dealer.
Why it matters
The sale showcases how historic F1 machinery is being preserved and monetized, highlighting the commercial value of motorsport heritage.
