MCMC pledges full rollout of Budget 2027 digital projects across Malaysia

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission affirmed its commitment to deliver all digital initiatives outlined in Budget 2027, including major funding for broadband expansion, digital health, AI training and cybersecurity.

In a statement, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission confirmed that every digital programme announced in Budget 2027 will be executed effectively. The plan earmarks RM5 billion for the JENDELA project, aiming to bring high-quality internet to remote villages, including Orang Asli communities, and to cover 7,000 km of highways and 1,700 km of rail lines. RM1 billion is set aside for the National Digital Health Ecosystem and Connectivity initiative, which will expand electronic medical records, telehealth services and drone-based medicine delivery in underserved regions.

RM142 million will reinforce the National Information Dissemination Centre as a hub for digital skills and AI training, while the MADANI Submarine Cable System will enhance network capacity between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak. The budget also funds Wi-Fi provision at all public higher-education institutions, the development of a sovereign AI cloud, and heightened cybersecurity measures, alongside a Safe Internet Campaign that has already blocked billions of scam calls and messages.

Why it matters

The funding will broaden digital access, improve healthcare delivery and strengthen cybersecurity for Malaysians.
