MECTS to become Mozambique's first PPP listed on the stock exchange

Mozambique Electronic Cargo Tracking Services plans to list on the BVM on October 14, marking the country's inaugural public-private partnership on the exchange.

Mozambique Electronic Cargo Tracking Services (MECTS) is set to join the Mozambique Stock Exchange (BVM) on October 14, becoming the first public-private partnership to be listed. The ceremony in Maputo will be attended by President Daniel Chapo, government officials, financial institutions and business leaders. MECTS filed its admission request in June after registering its shares with the Central Securities Depository, but the listing does not necessarily involve issuing new equity or a public share sale.

The company has not revealed the proportion of shares to be traded, the offering price or the exact trading arrangements. The move will increase BVM's listed companies to 17 and is touted as a milestone for the nation's capital market, aiming to broaden financing avenues and support economic growth. MECTS runs the SEERC cargo-tracking system in partnership with the Mozambican Tax Authority and has seen government payments from its concession rise sharply in the first half of 2026.

Why it matters

The listing introduces a new PPP model to Mozambique's capital market, potentially expanding investor access and modernising trade monitoring.
