Meiji Yasuda boosts Man Group private-credit funding to $1.3 billion
Japanese insurer Meiji Yasuda is increasing its commitment to Man Group’s private-credit funds to 200 billion yen and may buy a 5% equity stake.
Meiji Yasuda announced it will lift its investment in Man Group’s private-credit funds to 200 billion yen, about $1.3 billion, and is considering a 5 percent equity purchase of the UK-based manager. The additional capital will be deployed over three years, extending a partnership that began in February 2025. Market observers say the commitment underscores confidence in Man Group’s private-credit push and provides a steady flow of capital.
The insurer plans to acquire any equity stake via open-market transactions. This expansion follows Meiji Yasuda’s recent diversification efforts, including the $2.3 billion acquisition of Legal & General’s U.S. protection business and a 5 percent stake in the British insurer. Both companies will also collaborate on product development for Japan. The private-credit sector, however, faces regulatory scrutiny over transparency and valuation practices.
Why it matters
The deal shows Japanese insurers moving into higher-yield private credit, reshaping global asset-allocation trends.
