Mel Gibson says Lethal Weapon 5 stuck in studio limbo despite strong script

At Fan Expo Boston, Mel Gibson discussed the long-awaited Lethal Weapon 5, noting that he and screenwriter Richard Wenk finished a script they believe surpasses earlier installments, aiming to reflect what director Richard Donner would have wanted. Gibson said the film is currently mired in an "industrial film hell" that prevents it from entering production. He attributed the delay to Warner Bros.

Discovery’s precarious position amid a potential acquisition by David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance. Gibson hinted that if the corporate entanglement is untangled, the movie could resume within a year. He also mentioned his desire to direct the sequel, a wish he says Donner expressed before his death.
