Prop Tui Kamikamica has ended his NRL career following specialist advice after suffering a stroke and requiring heart and brain surgery.
Melbourne Storm prop Tui Kamikamica has been forced to retire on medical grounds after a stroke earlier this year required heart and brain surgery. The 32-year-old, who has played 142 NRL matches and contributed to the club's 2017 and 2020 premierships, had been aiming for a comeback this season and a captaincy role with Fiji at the World Cup. Specialists advised him to end his playing career, prompting the announcement and his recent induction as a Storm life member.
Kamikamica expressed gratitude to the club, teammates and staff, highlighting his decade-long association with Melbourne. Club CEO Justin Rodski praised his contributions on and off the field. The Storm also remain focused on the medical outlook for Eliesa Katoa, who suffered three head knocks while representing Tonga last year and is undergoing further evaluation.
