Melbourne underworld leader Fadi Haddara targeted in Altona North shooting
Gang figure Fadi Haddara was shot outside his Altona North residence in Melbourne's inner west, with his condition still unknown.
Fadi Haddara, the leader of a family-run crime group in Victoria, was shot in an ambush outside his home on Marigold Avenue in Altona North, an inner-west suburb of Melbourne. The attack occurred late in the evening, and officials have not yet disclosed his medical status. Haddara, 48, originally from Lebanon and a former security worker turned kick-boxing promoter, has been suspected of involvement in the state's illicit tobacco market.
His clan has a historic rivalry with incarcerated tobacco magnate Kazem Hamad and the 313 gang, also called The Commission. Last year, police dropped gun-possession and stolen-goods charges against Haddara during a probe into the tobacco wars. The shooting follows the 2009 drive-by murder of his brother, Mohammed Haddara, which took place only a few hundred metres from the current scene.
