Mélenchon vows to scrap Parcoursup at packed Clermont-Ferrand rally

Jean-Luc Mélenchon addressed a full house in Clermont-Ferrand, reiterating his pledge to abolish the Parcoursup system and to lower the voting age to 16.

At a packed Zénith venue in Clermont-Ferrand, Jean-Luc Mélenchon rallied supporters and again demanded the abolition of Parcoursup, the contested higher-education allocation platform. He lauded the recent wave of high-school protests, describing their political and syndical maturity as “very high,” and reiterated his proposal to grant voting rights to 16-year-olds. Mélenchon also presented his debt-reduction idea, claiming he alone has explained how to begin cancelling the portion of French debt held by the European Central Bank.

Two local students addressed the crowd, urging a “general mobilisation” and rejecting accusations that LFI was manipulating them. He briefly referenced Gabriel Attal’s comments about “cannon-firing police,” framing them as an insult to youth. The campaign schedule includes a major program convention in Le Bourget (Seine-Saint-Denis) in November and a December meeting in Le Havre, the hometown of rival Edouard Philippe.
