Men increasingly chase youthful looks as they age, experts say

More men are turning to cosmetic procedures to preserve a youthful appearance, driven by shifting social norms and workplace pressures.

According to plastic surgeon Krishna Vyas, men are increasingly pursuing cosmetic interventions to stay visually attractive as they grow older, now making up roughly 15% of procedures. The decline of past shame around aesthetic work has opened the market for treatments ranging from minimally invasive Botox and laser therapy to more involved surgeries such as chest masculinization and liposuction.

Motivations include maintaining a competitive edge in youth-focused workplaces and addressing early signs of aging like dark circles or diminished jawline. Vyas cautions that excessive non-surgical treatments can alter facial tissue layers and cause unintended effects. He recommends five foundational steps—avoiding nicotine, using sunscreen and retinoids, managing weight, treating hair loss early with FDA-approved drugs, and regular exercise—to support both health and appearance.

Why it matters

The trend shows changing attitudes toward male grooming and highlights health risks of cosmetic overuse.
