Mercedes-AMG unveils 1,150hp electric SUV with ultra-fast charging
Mercedes-AMG introduced its first purpose-built electric SUV, the 2028 AMG GT SUV, delivering roughly 1,150 horsepower and supporting ultra-fast charging.
Mercedes-AMG’s first fully developed electric SUV, the 2028 AMG GT SUV, will be launched in the United States next summer and is offered in three versions - GT 53, GT 55 and flagship GT 63 - the latter producing 1,153 hp from three axial-flux motors, the same powertrain used in the AMG GT four-door coupe. Built on the AMG.EA architecture, the vehicle supports 800-volt fast-charging at up to 710 kW for the 128 kWh battery (600 kW for the 106 kWh pack), allowing a 10-80 % charge in about 12 minutes and up to 450 km of range in ten minutes, with a maximum WLTP range of 435 miles.
Its weight of 5,941 lb is comparable to rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, while a new hydraulic-active suspension, three-stage air springs and six-degree rear-axle steering aim to blend track precision with comfort. Inside, a 14-inch MB.OS screen integrates AI assistants from ChatGPT, Microsoft and Google, and a Predictive Performance Manager adjusts motor output on track to optimise battery use. The SUV also reproduces AMG V8 and six-cylinder sounds and simulated gear shifts to preserve the brand’s auditory identity. Pricing has not yet been disclosed.
