Mercedes-AMG unveils limited-edition CLE 646 coupe with 475 kW V8

Mercedes-AMG has introduced the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, a track-oriented, rear-wheel-drive coupe powered by a 475 kW V8 and limited to 250 units.

Mercedes-AMG has revealed the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, the second model from the Mythos Series following the PureSpeed concept. Production is capped at 250 units worldwide, with just 30 street-legal examples, underscoring its focus on track use. The car is driven by a 4.0-litre M177 Evo twin-turbo V8 that produces 475 kW (646 hp) and 850 Nm of torque, paired with a nine-speed gearbox and rear-wheel drive aided by an electronic limited-slip differential.

Compared with the CLE 53, the 646 sheds 170 kg, resulting in a curb weight of 1,895 kg and a power-to-weight ratio of 250 kW per tonne; performance claims include 0-100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, 200 km/h in 11.4 seconds and a top speed of 310 km/h. The vehicle incorporates extensive carbon-fibre bodywork, an integrated roll cage, a bespoke Akrapovič titanium exhaust, and a 48 V mild-hybrid starter-generator. Its suspension, developed with KW, offers four-way adjustable dampers, while aerodynamic elements generate 250 kg of downforce at top speed. Mercedes-Benz Australia confirmed the model will not be offered locally.

Why it matters

The CLE 646 showcases Mercedes-AMG's extreme performance engineering and limited-run strategy, highlighting trends in high-end automotive exclusivity.
