Mercedes-Benz Korea celebrates two decades of technician training for electric vehicles
Mercedes-Benz Korea marked the 20th anniversary of its technician training program, now focused on electric-vehicle maintenance.
Mercedes-Benz Korea commemorated the 20th year of its technician development scheme, originally the Automotive Mechatronic Traineeship and updated in 2022 to the Automotive Electric Traineeship (AET). The program delivers 20 courses on EV safety, electric drivetrains, high-voltage batteries, cooling and charging, alongside traditional engine maintenance. Students receive about 14 weeks of theory at the Mercedes-Benz Training Academy in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, followed by 40 weeks of practical training at authorized service centers, earning AET certification recognized worldwide.
The academy, opened in 2015 with a 25 billion-won investment, features dedicated high-voltage labs and a virtual studio, accommodating more than 300 trainees at once. It also offers continuing education for existing service-center technicians, ensuring the network can handle increasingly complex, electrified vehicles.
Why it matters
The initiative equips South Korean technicians with skills needed for the growing electric-vehicle market.
