Mercedes secures priority access to ProLogium's fourth-gen solid-state batteries, extending EV range

Mercedes has strengthened its more than ten-year collaboration with Taiwan's ProLogium by receiving priority access to the company's fourth-generation solid-state battery cells, which promise either double the energy capacity at the same weight or the same capacity at half the size and weight. This breakthrough could reshape electric-vehicle design, prompting other manufacturers to pursue similar technology. In parallel, Mercedes is working with U.S. firm Factorial Energy, and a uniquely modified EQS prototype recently traveled 1,205 km on a full charge, still retaining 137 km of range.

The brand's current flagship EQS sedan offers a WLTP-rated 926 km on a 122 kWh pack. Audi's A6 e-tron holds a WLTP record of 1,338 km, and Mercedes' Vision EQXX prototype has already proven a real-world range of about 1,300 km per charge.
