Mesta shuts down concrete division, affecting 40 workers

Mesta announced the closure of its concrete department, putting 40 employees out of work after a prolonged drop in orders.

Mesta has decided to wind down its own concrete division after a persistent slump in order flow, with the 2027 order book showing little work ahead. The shutdown will affect 40 employees, including project and site managers, skilled workers and apprentices. In a press release, the firm explained that the market for smaller, specialized concrete jobs has contracted, rendering the unit unviable.

Oddmund Lefdal, director of Construction and Special Production, described the move as a heavy decision and acknowledged the challenge of letting go of many skilled workers. Mesta aims to relocate as many affected staff as possible to other internal positions and is also contacting external companies that might need qualified labour. The company pledged to seek good solutions for those impacted.

Why it matters

The closure threatens jobs for 40 workers and highlights shrinking demand in Norway's construction sector.
