Metropolitan Police detectives have completed a massive evidence-gathering operation on the Grenfell Tower fire, forwarding files on 20 companies and 54 individuals to the Crown Prosecution Service. The CPS has committed to make charging decisions before the ten-year anniversary of the blaze on June 14, 2027. The investigation, described as one of the most complex in UK law-enforcement history, examined the actions of more than 15,000 people and 700 organisations, producing 12,600 pages of evidence, 14,700 statements and over 27,000 exhibits stored securely.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Kevin Southworth highlighted the nine-year effort by a 220-person team. The public inquiry had previously condemned decades of governmental and industry neglect that led to the use of combustible cladding. A £2 million replica of the tower is being constructed to aid future court proceedings.
