Meta executives to face Polish officials over fake AI-generated ads and alleged scam profits
Meta’s top managers will appear before Polish authorities on Thursday to answer questions about deceptive AI-generated advertisements and the company’s compliance with the EU Digital Services Act.
On Monday, InPost founder Rafał Brzoska posted that Meta’s senior Polish team—including Robert Bednarski, Jakub Turowski, Tomasz Parfjanowicz and Ewa Tumanow—will be summoned for a hearing on Thursday at 12:30 in room 312 of building U. The session, attended by ministers responsible for digitalisation, internal affairs, administration and justice, will examine the operation of Meta’s advertising platforms, especially the use of generative AI tools that create deep-fake ads and the mechanisms protecting users.
Brzoska claims that false advertisements featuring the images of President Karol Nawrocki and Prime Minister Donald Tusk have been run on Meta’s services, generating billions in revenue. He alleges that Meta earns “crores” from scam-related ads and shifts blame onto advertisers and users. The government, led by Digitalisation Minister Krzysztof Gawkowski, will demand explanations on compliance with the EU Digital Services Act and steps to eliminate fraudulent ads.
Why it matters
The hearing could force Meta to change its ad policies and curb deceptive AI-generated content in Poland.
