Meta introduces AI agents to automate WhatsApp Business setup tasks

Meta announced that developers can now use AI assistants to configure and manage WhatsApp Business accounts, simplifying the previously fragmented setup process.

Meta unveiled a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for WhatsApp Business that connects AI coding agents like Claude, Cursor, Codex or ChatGPT to the platform, allowing them to perform most of the setup work. Developers can now chat with their chosen AI to create a business account, verify phone numbers, enroll in the Cloud API, and ensure compliance with Terms of Service, among other tasks. The AI can also draft or edit messaging templates, test messages, and monitor webhook activity.

The move expands Meta’s MCP offerings beyond ad management and app configuration to include business onboarding. Additionally, Meta’s Social Technologies MCP remains available for discovering API endpoints, searching documentation, and troubleshooting errors. The change aims to reduce the need for developers to juggle multiple tools such as the Developer Console and Business Manager.

Why it matters

Automating WhatsApp Business setup lowers technical barriers, helping companies launch customer messaging faster.
