Meta removes satirical video criticizing its AI camera glasses from Instagram

Roel Maalderink, together with digital rights group Bits of Freedom, produced a satirical Instagram video that showed Meta employees outside the company’s Amsterdam headquarters being questioned about the firm’s AI-enabled camera glasses. The clip, which used the glasses to record the interview, was taken down by Meta on the grounds of alleged bullying and intimidation, according to a screenshot shared by Bits of Freedom.

The organization argued that the action highlights Meta’s power to dictate what can be discussed online. The Dutch Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens recently cautioned that recordings from camera glasses may be illegal if shared without permission, underscoring privacy concerns. Maalderink noted the video had received positive feedback before its removal, and Bits of Freedom called the takedown censorship and urged a ban on the devices. Meta has not responded to requests for comment.
