Meta tests automatic podcast transcriptions on Threads to aid creators

Connor Hayes, the head of Threads, revealed that the platform is testing a new capability to automatically transcribe podcast audio clips. This feature would show written captions beside the clips, allowing users to follow the content even when they have the volume muted. Hayes described it as part of a broader suite of podcast-sharing tools currently being explored for the Meta-owned app.

Although there is no assurance that the experiment will be rolled out widely, Meta is focusing on giving creators more resources as Threads continues its rapid growth, having reached 500 million monthly active users in June. The move reflects the company's effort to attract podcasters, a demographic it sees as valuable for the platform. If successful, the transcription tool could make audio content more accessible within the text-centric feed.
