Meta unveils $1,300 lightweight VR glasses slated for spring 2027
Meta announced its next-generation VR glasses, priced at $1,300 and expected to ship in spring 2027.
At its Connect event, Meta revealed a $1,300 VR glasses model that will arrive in spring 2027, designed as lightweight sunglasses paired with a detachable computing pod. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Reality Elite XR2 Gen 3 chip, the device offers a 5K (2,412 × 2,288) micro-OLED panel running at 120 Hz and a 70-degree horizontal field of view. Six outward-facing cameras provide full-color passthrough and motion tracking, complemented by four internal eye-tracking cameras.
The system ships with over 75 hand-controlled games and can connect Touch Plus controllers for the broader Quest library. Weighing roughly 100 grams, the glasses are lighter than most headsets, while the compact compute puck, containing 12 GB RAM and 128 GB storage, adds about 300 grams. Meta also announced a partnership with National Geographic for a new 180-degree 3D video app launching next year.
