Meteorologist Sara Salonen predicts a milder, drier early October for Finland

Meteorologist Sara Salonen says Finland will experience above-average warmth in October, with a dry, sunny start to the week and rain returning later.

Forecaster Sara Salonen cites the latest ECMWF monthly model, which indicates that October will be marginally warmer than the climatological norm throughout Finland. The first week is likely to be dominated by a high-pressure system that limits rainfall and brings extended periods of sunshine, with only sporadic showers possible in the north and occasional breezy spells. As the week progresses, the high pressure is expected to shift, allowing rain to return toward the weekend.

Predicting the last week of October proves difficult because the high's precise location over Northern Europe is still variable, leading to a wide spread between colder and warmer scenarios. Typical late-October daytime highs range from 4-8 °C in the south to -2 °C to +2 °C in Lapland, while nighttime frosts are common outside the southern coast. Early November should be close to normal, but a milder signal may arrive from Central Europe, and low pressure over the British Isles could bring additional mild air and rain into Finland.
