Metlen invests heavily in EPALME to boost recycled aluminium capacity
Metlen has made a strategic investment in EPALME, enhancing its integrated aluminium value chain and focusing on higher use of recycled aluminium.
Metlen announced a new strategic investment in its subsidiary EPALME, aiming to strengthen the integrated aluminium value chain of the Metals sector. By installing state-of-the-art, highly automated sorting, processing and melting lines, EPALME will become the biggest independent secondary aluminium plant in Greece and will gain new capabilities. The project is designed to work closely with Aluminium of Greece, with EPALME acting as a hub for collection, sorting and pre-treatment of scrap while the partner provides primary production scale and metallurgical flexibility.
This collaboration enables the handling of more complex scrap, including post-consumer aluminium that was previously hard to incorporate. Metlen says the move will improve raw-material utilization, create additional value, and boost the firm’s international competitiveness.
Why it matters
It expands Greece's capacity to recycle aluminium, supporting sustainability and the metal industry's growth.
