Metropolitan Police Review Putney Bridge CCTV in New Push to Solve Jill Dando Murder

Metropolitan Police officials disclosed that they are applying the latest CCTV enhancement tools to original recordings from Putney Bridge tube station, a step they describe as a "new and realistic line of enquiry" in the Jill Dando murder. The case, which was downgraded to inactive twelve years ago, has seen massive resources deployed in the past, including Operation Oxborough’s multi-million-pound probe. Former Commissioner Sir John Stevens recalled the scale of the original investigation and the relief felt at Barry George’s 2001 conviction, which was later overturned in 2008.

Michael Mansfield, who defended George, and a reporter at one outlet have repeatedly suggested that a Serbian-linked hitman theory was never fully examined. Witnesses had previously identified a man running near the scene, and a female motorist even selected a suspect in Putney Bridge CCTV, but police dismissed the lead. The renewed focus on the station’s footage aims to finally pinpoint the perpetrator after 27 years of dead ends.
