Mexican musician's business partner arrested after brutal 140-minute family massacre
Indie musician Jonathan Meléndez and his family were slain in their Atizapán penthouse, with only a five-year-old son surviving, and his business partner Diego Sebastián N has been arrested.
On September 1, Jonathan Meléndez, a well-known indie keyboardist, was murdered along with his pregnant wife, their three-year-old daughter and live-in aide Aleyda Romero inside their two-story penthouse in Atizapán, north of Mexico City. The attack, lasting roughly 140 minutes, began after Diego Sebastián N, a business associate, arrived at the residence and allegedly attempted to steal Meléndez’s cryptocurrency wallet.
Meléndez warned building security at 7:20 pm that his partner was armed, but police only arrived around 8:20 pm, knocked without response, and left. At 9:15 pm a second officer used a metal battering ram to breach the door, uncovering the four victims dead from gunshot wounds; the only survivor was the five-year-old son who remained in shock. Investigators say the motive was a robbery attempt, and Diego Sebastián N has been arrested and charged with multiple murders.
