Mexican prosecutors probe possible sexual assault before Claudia Tacoronte's murder

Mexican prosecutors are investigating whether the fatal stabbing of student Claudia Tacoronte was preceded by an attempted sexual assault by the primary suspect, identified by locals as Paco, alias "El Trompas". Early reports framed the incident as a robbery, but surveillance video captured a conversation between the two before the assault, leading investigators to reconsider the motive. Tacoronte had been staying outside the Casa de la Cultura in Cuautla after attending a medicinal-plants gathering and was alone when the suspect approached.

After a brief exchange, she moved toward the building while the man followed, culminating in a knife attack inside the fenced garden area. The Fiscalía is still piecing together why the suspect approached her, what transpired during their talk, and whether the assault occurred as she tried to distance herself. The case remains open and is being examined under the feminicide protocol, though no definitive conclusion has been reached yet.
