Mexico backs FIFA chief Infantino despite regional calls for reform

Presidents of Concacaf, UEFA and the Asian Football Confederation released an open letter calling for stronger governance, transparency and accountability at FIFA, a plea supported by U.S. Soccer, Canada Soccer, the Caribbean Football Union and the Central American Football Union. The federation is also pursuing the chance to host the expanded 2029 Club World Cup, with President Claudia Sheinbaum indicating government interest. One outlet linked these ambitions to Mexico's split from its regional allies. Additionally, Mexico's growing rapport with CONMEBOL and speculation about a switch to the South American confederation may further explain its continued loyalty to Infantino.
