Mi Hazánk deputy elected by parliament steps down from media council over conflict rule

Tóth Máté was appointed to the Media Council of the National Media and Communications Authority after a parliamentary vote of 171 yes, 9 no and 7 abstentions. Prior to the vote, he declared his intention to run for the deputy chairmanship of the Mi Hazánk movement at the party's Saturday congress. Hungarian media legislation prohibits council members from holding any party office, whether national or regional, and bars them from political activity on behalf of a party.

Party president Toroczkai László had previously stated that Tóth would relinquish his council seat should he win the party position, calling the situation a potential "soap opera." Following his election as deputy chairman, Tóth announced his resignation from the Media Council and said he would decide which role to keep after consulting with Toroczkai and the party faction.
