Michael Mando Returns as Scorpion in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Eyes Venom Future

Michael Mando returned to the Spider-Man universe after a decade, reprising Mac Gargan/Scorpion in Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where the villain is briefly controlled by Jean Grey during a pivotal battle with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. The actor recalled filming in a real prison for Homecoming, which was interrupted by an actual riot, requiring post-production ADR. For Brand New Day, Mando praised Sadie Sink’s performance and the thematic parallels between Gargan and Grey, both disillusioned with the Department of Damage Control.

He disclosed that the creative team has explored a storyline that could eventually turn Gargan into a long-standing Venom host, though final decisions rest with Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal. Outside the Spider-Man project, Mando is appearing opposite Kevin Hart in the Netflix comedy 72 Hours, finished filming the Gundam adaptation for Legendary/Netflix, and will voice Bane in Warner Bros.’ animated Batman: Knightfall trilogy, as well as act in Amazon Prime Video’s series Criminal.
