Michaël R. Roskam's WWII Drama 'Le Faux Soir' to Close San Sebastián Festival
The Belgian-French resistance film 'Le Faux Soir' will serve as the closing night feature of this year’s San Sebastián Film Festival, premiering in Europe after its Toronto debut.
Belgian-French director Michaël R. Roskam’s latest project, 'Le Faux Soir,' has been chosen as the closing night film of the San Sebastián Film Festival, where it will be shown out of competition after the awards ceremony at the Kursaal. The World War II resistance thriller, set in 1943 Nazi-occupied Belgium, follows a group of fighters who produce a fake version of the daily Le Soir to ridicule the German authorities, an act described as the first media hack of its kind.
After its world premiere in Toronto’s Special Presentations, the film makes its European debut in San Sebastián. Production is handled by Frakas Productions, Harbor Men Pictures and Rectangle Productions, with Goodfellas managing international sales and Cinéart slated to release it in the Benelux region. The ensemble cast includes Arieh Worthalter, Mélanie Thierry, Karim Leklou, Mara Taquin, Bouli Lanners, Julien Frison and François Damiens. The festival runs from September 18 to 26, and the closing slot brings Roskam back to San Sebastián twelve years after his award-winning crime drama 'The Drop.'
