Michael Wolff claims Xi Jinping is testing Donald Trump's limits on Taiwan

Michael Wolff, the longtime biographer of Donald Trump, contended that Xi Jinping’s first Washington visit in over a decade was a strategic assessment of the president’s mindset and policy stance on Taiwan. Wolff said Xi was evaluating Trump’s concern, seriousness, and even possible dementia, aiming to exploit perceived weaknesses. He noted that Xi’s public reference to the Thucydides Trap served as a veiled threat, implying that cooperation would continue only if the Taiwan question remained unpressured.

Wolff also claimed Xi is attempting to introduce a new diplomatic vocabulary that Trump, with a limited verbal repertoire, might adopt to China’s advantage. The White House did not comment, and Trump praised Xi on social media after the arrival ceremony. Wolff concluded that Trump’s lack of a firm ideological position makes him vulnerable to such Chinese tactics.
