Michael Wolff says Trump’s self-destructive behavior signals the start of his downfall

Biographer Michael Wolff argues that Donald Trump’s aggressive, narcissistic actions in his second term are now backfiring and could mark the first stage of his decline.

Michael Wolff, who has authored several Trump biographies, told the Inside Trump’s Head podcast that the president’s unchecked aggression and narcissism in his second term are leading to self-inflicted damage. He referenced former ghostwriter Tony Schwartz’s astonishment at Trump’s self-destructive path and highlighted the president’s lack of political calculus in recent decisions. One outlet/Ipsos poll shows Trump’s approval at just 32 percent, while Democrats are expected to recapture the House and possibly the Senate in the midterms.

Wolff argued that Trump’s ego blocks the adjustments any other leader would make, such as moderating unpopular immigration policies or reconsidering the war in Iran. He warned that these missteps could constitute the first act of Trump’s eventual downfall, though he left open the possibility of further developments. The White House declined to comment, and Trump’s communications director previously dismissed Wolff as unreliable.
