Michigan freshman defensive tackles impress coaches during fall camp

Coach Larry Black praised the development of freshman defensive tackles Titan Davis and Alister Vallejo at Michigan's fall camp.

At Michigan's fall camp, defensive line coach Larry Black spoke positively about the growth of freshman tackles Titan Davis and Alister Vallejo, both four-star recruits. He explained that new players must master hand placement, body positioning and manage school responsibilities, which makes early playing time difficult. The current depth chart features players such as Trey Pierce, Enow Etta, Jonah Lea'ea, Deyvid Palepale and Bobby Kanka ahead of the freshmen.

Black praised the newcomers for their daily effort and noted that Vallejo has been compared to Mason Graham, a former freshman who earned regular snaps. Davis, listed at 286 pounds, and Vallejo, at 307 pounds, are expected to develop further as the team approaches its season opener on September 5.

Why it matters

The assessment shows Michigan's future defensive line depth and the potential impact of its top recruits.
