Michigan Nurse Charged for Helping Injured Immigrant Detainee Flee Hospital Custody
A Michigan nurse was federally charged with aiding an injured Mexican detainee’s escape from Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital while he was under ICE custody.
Federal prosecutors have filed a misdemeanor charge against Chloe Renae Freeman, a 33-year-old registered nurse at Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital, accusing her of facilitating the escape of an injured Mexican immigration detainee on May 28. The man, identified only by initials, was apprehended by Border Patrol after fleeing agents, sustaining head injuries, and was taken to the hospital while remaining in administrative immigration custody.
According to an FBI affidavit, Freeman kept the patient in the CT suite, prevented his return to his room, and later removed his IV and led him out through the ambulance bay, stating she disagreed with ICE’s family-separation policies. Security footage allegedly shows the detainee exiting the hospital shortly after Freeman entered the CT area. Freeman has been released on a $10,000 unsecured bond, with a preliminary examination set for October 20, and is no longer employed by Trinity Health.
