Michigan Senate hopeful Abdul el Sayed fires back at Trump over social media jab

President Donald Trump posted a side-by-side photo on Truth Social that placed him and Melania alongside Michigan Senate candidate Abdul el Sayed and his wife Sarah Jukaku, who was wearing a hijab, in an effort to criticize el Sayed’s platform. The White House later amplified the same theme with a video. In response, el Sayed told progressive commentator Jack Cocchiarella that his wife possesses more strength than Trump ever did, challenging the president to “come at us.”

He added that the Trump attack will make him the focal point of the midterms, which he accepts. Having won the Democratic primary over Rep. Haley Stevens, el Sayed now faces former Rep. Mike Rogers, a Trump-backed opponent, in a race that polls show as extremely close. The campaign enjoys endorsements from figures such as Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Governor Gavin Newsom, who recently campaigned in Michigan on his behalf.
