Microsoft cites AI-generated bug backlog for postponing Exchange SE cumulative update
Microsoft announced that the rollout of the first cumulative update for Exchange Server Subscription Edition has been delayed because AI tools have produced a surge of bug reports.
In a recent post to its tech community, Microsoft acknowledged that the Exchange Server Subscription Edition (SE) cumulative update 1 will not arrive as scheduled. The delay stems from an influx of bug reports generated by AI tools that the firm uses to locate security flaws. Engineers are currently confirming the legitimacy of each finding, reproducing the problems, applying fixes, and testing for regressions, a process that consumes significant time.
The original timeline, first set for the end of the first half of 2026 and later shifted to the second half, has been further postponed. Microsoft emphasized its priority on security and does not want to release an update that would later need to be superseded by urgent patches, which would double administrators’ workload. The company offered no concrete release date, only assuring customers that the update is still forthcoming.
Why it matters
Enterprises relying on Exchange SE may face longer exposure to unresolved bugs and security risks.
