Microsoft claims Windows 11 now feels up to 20% faster and runs smoother on 8 GB PCs
Microsoft says recent updates make Windows 11 roughly 20% more responsive, especially on systems with 8 GB of RAM.
Microsoft has completed a series of performance upgrades for Windows 11, claiming the operating system is now about 20% more responsive. The changes center on better memory management, enabling devices with 8 GB of RAM to retain up to 2 GB more active data, which frees roughly 200 MB for applications. Core components such as Start, File Explorer, Search, Edge, and Widgets have been tuned for speed, and Widgets now load only when opened.
Additional refinements include less intrusive Windows Update, a repositionable taskbar, faster Windows Hello sign-in, and Bluetooth pairing that is up to 15 seconds quicker for AirPods. An accelerated Windows Search feature is currently available to Windows Insiders and is slated for broader release later this year.
Why it matters
The update improves everyday performance for millions of Windows 11 users, especially those with modest hardware.
