Microsoft Edge team says AI-driven extension surge is overwhelming its review pipeline

Microsoft’s Edge division disclosed that the surge in AI-generated code has caused a sharp increase in browser extensions submitted for the Edge Add-ons store, overloading its expedited review pipeline and extending processing times. In response, the team has deployed automation to handle repeatable validation tasks, such as detecting known policy violations and security flaws, without lowering the overall review standards.

Human reviewers will continue to focus on more intricate submissions that require judgment. The automation is intended to improve consistency and allow faster approvals. Additionally, the Edge team will refresh the “Featured” badge for high-quality extensions every 15 days, giving developers quicker recognition. This follows a similar admission from Microsoft’s Exchange team about AI-related delays.
