Microsoft employees disclose salary, bonus and stock data in internal spreadsheet

A crowd-sourced spreadsheet containing nearly 600 Microsoft staff entries reveals base pay, raises, cash bonuses and equity awards for the current year.

An internal Microsoft spreadsheet, viewed by one outlet, contains self-reported compensation details from almost 600 employees, covering base salaries, raises, cash bonuses and stock awards for the year. The data, while not official or exhaustive, offers a glimpse into how the company rewards talent as it competes with rivals like Meta, Google and emerging AI startups. One outlet removed entries that appeared erroneous and excluded levels and teams with scant submissions, acknowledging that senior or higher-paid staff may be under-represented.

With a workforce of 223,000 as of June 30, the spreadsheet reflects only a small segment of the organization. The disclosure comes as Microsoft pours billions into AI and cloud services and recently executed a fresh wave of layoffs in July. Microsoft chose not to provide comment on the figures or their methodology.

Why it matters

It shows how Microsoft uses pay and equity to compete for AI talent while navigating layoffs and market pressure.
