Microsoft merges consumer and business Copilot into a single super-app platform
Microsoft is unifying its consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot into one application, replacing the dual icons with a single updated app.
Microsoft disclosed that it will combine its consumer Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot assistants into a single interface, eliminating the separate system-tray icons. The unified app, still called Microsoft Copilot but with a refreshed icon, will support both personal Microsoft accounts and work or school Microsoft Entra ID accounts, keeping the two account types separate within the program. Deployment starts worldwide for mobile and web users in mid-August, with Windows and Mac versions arriving in mid-September, and some Windows Insiders will see the changes this week.
Users will retain their chat histories, but the company will retire Podcasts, Deep Research, and group-chat threads after August 18, and some services like Shopping and Copilot Health may be temporarily unavailable during the transition. Core Copilot functions remain free, though usage limits could vary, and enterprise security settings stay unchanged.
