Microsoft pushes emergency Windows 11 update to patch September rollout bugs
Microsoft has released an out-of-band update for Windows 11 to fix issues introduced by its record-breaking September Patch Tuesday.
After deploying its largest September Patch Tuesday, which remediated almost 1,000 security flaws, Microsoft discovered new bugs affecting Remote Desktop sessions, USB audio hardware and Hyper-V-based Linux virtual machines. To resolve these, the company rolled out an out-of-band emergency update for Windows 11 versions 26H1, 25H2 and 24H2, plus corresponding updates for Windows Server 2025, Windows Server 2022, Windows 10 LTSC and Windows Server 2012 R2.
The September patch had also disrupted folder sharing on Hyper-V Linux VMs. This latest fix continues a pattern of unexpected releases this year, including four out-of-band patches in January, two in March and another in July for an Intel driver issue.
